Three Paths to S/4HANA

Chaque entreprise a son contexte. KARTOSA analyse votre situation et recommande la stratégie la plus adaptée.

We are here to answer your questions

SAP S/4HANA is the next-generation SAP ERP, built on an in-memory database to accelerate business processes. It replaces SAP ECC and incorporates advanced capabilities, including real-time analytics and the Fiori user experience. Migration is critical as SAP ECC/HCM standard support ends in 2027; S/4HANA provides long-term performance and sustainable innovation for both IT and HR leadership.

SAP offers three primary migration scenarios: 1) Brownfield Conversion converting the existing ECC system into S/4HANA while retaining settings and data; 2) New Implementation (Greenfield) starting fresh (e.g., via RISE with SAP to reconfigure a standardized system; and 3) Selective Data Transition (RISE with SAP) a managed cloud service offering a balanced hybrid approach (technical migration + business transformation). Extending ECC support is strongly discouraged due to escalating costs without innovation benefits.

During a system conversion, custom code (Z or Y objects) must be reviewed and adapted for the SAP HANA platform using ABAP Test Cockpit (ATC) and compatibility checks. In a new implementation, standard S/4HANA processes across HCM, Finance, and other core modules are re-deployed to align with current business needs. Regardless of the chosen pathway, IT leadership must schedule readiness checks to analyze dependencies and infrastructure requirements, adapt existing interfaces to match new S/4 formats, and upskill teams on Fiori web interface tools.

For HR teams, S/4HANA migration serves as a strategic catalyst to transform the global HR operating model. Beyond technical upgrade, organizations can leverage this transition to deploy SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central alongside S/4HANA or streamline core HR data models. It is essential to ensure that existing HR processes such as talent management and learning remain fully aligned within the new system architecture. Furthermore, HR leadership must lead change management initiatives to prepare employees for the Fiori self-service interface and modernized digital workflows.

Major risks include custom code remediation (HANA incompatibilities), historical data consistency, and organizational change resistance. Success requires dedicated data cleansing efforts and comprehensive user training for the Fiori interface. Project timelines and budgets can extend if technical surprises arise. As with any major migration, partnering with an experienced SAP systems integrator or leveraging an official SAP support contract is strongly recommended to mitigate these risks.
